What you don’t know about Fred Matiangi

Fred Matiangi whose full names are Fred Okengo Matiang’i is the current Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Kenya.


Fred Matiangi was born in Borabu in Nyamira District. He is married and has two children.

Education Qualification

Fred Matiangi acquired a (BA) at Kenyatta University and (MA) and (PhD) at University of Nairobi.

Career life

Dr. Matiangi formerly taught at Egerton University and the University of Nairobi. He held various research and Programme implementation positions with various local and international organizations.

He consulted previously for among others the World Bank, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations Development Programme.

Fred Matiangi served as the Eastern Africa regional representative for the Centre for International Development, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, the State University of New York before being nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Information Communication and Technology on 23 April 2013 and on 24 November 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him as the cabinet secretary for Education, in a cabinet reshuffle.

Performance Ratings

Matiangi has received plaudits as the most hardworking CS of the year and in the capacities, he has served, he has proved excellent.
