Safaricom Limited has announced the introduction of Voice over LTE (VolTE), a technology that brings high-quality sound and video across the 4G network.
This will see customers enjoy HD Calls and video calls with advanced features like reduced background noise and clarity.
This technology will enable clients to make calls using 4G without relying on the the 2G and the 3G which have proved to be slower.
According to Charles Kare, director consumer business at Safaricom, the introduction of VolTE will better phone call quality three times than the previous output.
“We are the first to bring this technology to East Africa. Our customers can now make quality voice and video calls without internet and at normal calling rates,’’ Kare said.
With this technology, Safaricom has partnered with Samsung, Techno, Intel, Huawei and Nokia inorder to push the update and soon will make a partnership with Apple to role the tech in iPhone.
So far, Safaricom has covered 45 per cent of subscription and it is looking forward to having 80 per cent by March next year.
‘’Our 4G network currently covers 2000 towns across the country. We plan to increase this to 5000 towns or 80 per cent of our subscribers by March 2020,’’ Kare said.
