The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has embarked on major rehabilitation of sewer lines in Makande Estate Mombasa County.
Once finished, the rehabilitation project will improve environmental protection as
well as the safety of Makande resident’s water and sewer system and reduce overall operating costs considerably.
The construction includes three 90,000 litre capacity septic tanks with associated pipelines and three soak pits.
However, NHC affirms that sanitation problems in Makande estate have been linked to blockage of sewer lines by some private developers within the estate who have constructed kiosks and garages along the sewer line.
Legal action has been instituted against with a view of evicting to enable the extensive refurbishment of the entire sewer line in the Estate.
