It’s like “Back to the Future,” but it’s genuine: a flying car prototype floated 10 feet above ground in Japan on Monday for about a minute.
The early prototype is more like a big drone than a typical vehicle, designed for independent delivery flights. Made by NEC, a Tokyo-based worldwide technology company, it is powered by four propellers and intended for self-flying deliveries. According to news reports, in a business plant in Abiko, Japan, a Tokyo suburb, the car was floating about 10 feet off the floor inside a cage without passengers.
“We at NEC think that a flying car-centered travel revolution will take place,” said NEC Corporation Vice President Norihiko Ishiguro.
