Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko left a section of senators in stitches after turning down lunch offer and instead requested to be shown where the bar was.
Sonko appeared before the Senate Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, July 15 to respond to queries arising from the auditor general’s report.
After being grilled for more than six hours, the county boss was invited for lunch by the committee chair and Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri but declined the offer in a rather hilarious way.
“Governor, I am sorry we didn’t offer you tea but you are free to join us there is lunch which has been served and I think it is almost lunchtime, so you can take lunch governor,” requested Ongeri.
In response, Sonko asked the committee chair to instead show him where the bar was, suggesting it was past lunchtime and would prefer sipping a bottle of beer.
“Maybe mmh…where is the bar, the bar for the Senate,” responded the county boss as senators burst out into laughter.
When Senator Ongeri informed him that there was no bar for senators, Sonko slightly raised both hands to signal he was not interested in any other thing.
