Omar Lali, the man last seen with Ms. Muigai in an apartment, will remain in custody to enable detectives to conclude investigations.
This came even as fresh details emerged showing that Tecra’s family disapproved of the suspect’s relationship with their daughter. Mr. Lali’s cousin has claimed the deceased had converted to Islam. Lali has been detained at Lamu police station since his arrest on Sunday at the apartment where he lived with Tecra for about a month.
For the past 51 years of Omar Lali did not, even in his wildest dream, imagine he would be a person of interest in any criminal investigations especially one involving the demise of his lover. Unfortunately, this is his current reality since he was the person who was with Tecra before she met her death after falling down the stairs on April 28.
Speaking to the Standard, the suspect said contrary to all the rumors making rounds on the internet, he loved the deceased and was very special to him.
“They told my brother to tell me to confess to punching her. Why would I punch her or kill her? Why can’t people accept God’s will? I am suffering without her,” he said. “That girl was special and I will never find anyone like her,” Lali added.
Tecra’s partner narrated the events that led to her death on the fateful night when he was woken by a thud and a single scream. He tried to do first aid to her and a few moments later, the Keroche Breweries heiress spoke to him and said she was in great pain on her head and limbs. She was later rushed to Shela dispensary and later transferred to King Faud County Hospital for advanced medical care.
