Safaricom `Rewards` Subscribers platinum offers After a System Glitch

Sambaza is a service by Safaricom that allows you to share your airtime with fellow on-net friends. Both prepay and postpay subscribers can use the service to send airtime to other on-net users. This free of charge service allows you to send credit from as low as Ksh 5 to Ksh 10,000 to other subscribers at any time. Sharing airtime with your airtime-strapped friend comes in handy in certain situations. 

1. SMS

Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via SMS.

  1. Open a new SMS message
  2. As a message, type the amount of airtime you want to sambaza followed by hash (#), and then follow this with the mobile number you wish to sambaza to, e.g. 20#0722000000
  3. Send the text message to 140
  4. Wait for a confirmation message from Safaricom

2. USSD

Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via USSD.

a. Method 1

  1. Dial *140*amount of airtime you would like to sambaza*mobile number you want to top-up#, e.g. *140*20*0722000000#
  2. Press the CALL/OK button
  3. You will receiving a message to confirm that the airtime has been sent

b. Method 2

  1. Dial *456#
  2. Select ‘Sambaza’ from the options presented
  3. Select ‘Sambaza Airtime’
  4. Enter the recipient’s phone number
  5. Enter the amount of airtime to sambaza
  6. Wait for a confirmation message from Safaricom

3. SIM Toolkit

Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via SIM Toolkit.

  1. Go to SIM Toolkit > Safaricom+ > My Account > Sambaza
  2. Choose ‘Prepay’ or ‘Postpay’
  3. Enter amount to transfer
  4. Search SIM contacts or enter mobile number
  5. Tap on ‘Send’

4. my Safaricom app

Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via my Safaricom app.

  1. Open mySafaricom app > Services > Sambaza Services
  2. Choose ‘Airtime Balance’
  3. Enter the recipient’s mobile number and airtime to be transferred
  4. Tap on ‘Ok’
