In response to financial sanctions imposed on Huawei by the United States government, Huawei moved to launch their own operating system. Dubbed Harmony OS, and styled as HarmonyOS, its and open source, microkernel-based distributed operating system designed primarily for internet of things (IoT) devices. Huawei Mate 30 Pro became the first smartphone to integrate the operating system, but without Google apps. Most Huawei users and fans were concerned, particularly how they could install Google apps like YouTube, Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps etc on their new Huawei smartphones. Additionally, those smartphones don’t come with Google services out of the box. But worry not, there’s a way one can be able to install those apps, and even the Play Store, on their Huawei smartphone.

How to install Google apps on Huawei phone

With Huawei’s own App Store dubbed ‘App Gallery‘ you can search, download, manage and share mobile apps. But if you will not find Google apps on that store. Huawei has recommended APKPure as an alternative place to download apps that are not listed on Huawei App Gallery.

How to install Google Play Store on Huawei phone

Here is a workaround on how you can be able to install Google Play Store on your Huawei phone.

  1. Download and install the Chat Partner app
  2. Run the app on your phone
  3. Tap on ‘Detect Device’ then ‘Repair Now’
  4. After the Device Administrator window shows up, tap on ‘Activate’
  5. Restart your phone
  6. Now you should have the Google Play Store ready and working
  7. Log into your Google account and carry on (you can uninstall Chat Partner now)
  8. If you get a ‘Device is not Play Protect certified’ error, try this procedure
