Four government officials from Kilifi have been detained by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption officials under the assertions of COVID-19 funds embezzlement.
The officers include Kilifi County Secretary Mr. Arnold Mkare, Chief Officer Health Services Mr. Bilali Mazoya, Finance Chief Officer Mr. Benjamin Kai, and Chief Officer for Medical Mr. Alio Ibrahim.
Following preliminary reports from the investigation team, the officials embezzled millions allocated to construct the Kilifi Covid-19 complex centre.
According to the EACC regional boss, Mutembei Nyaga the officers, who were tasked to oversee the implementation, failed to produce tangible information on how millions of shillings were spent on the project triggering questions on the spend.
“The County officers have been reluctant, neglected or failed to provide EACC with the information. Today we came here to pick those officers who have refused to share those documents,” Nyaga said.
Initially, the project was devided in two faces where the first phase estimated to cost Ksh.493 million while the second to take Ksh.398 million.
